Two writers’ guide to rejection (and its unexpected benefits) by Molly Stevens and Mariel Fulghum | 9/21/22 2:30am If you’re reading this, you’ve probably been rejected from something at Dartmouth. If you haven’t yet, we sincerely hope that you will be soon. This isn’t because we’re sadists and we want to see you fail. Instead, we hope to see you succeed. We just know, after going through painful rejection ourselves, that trying and failing is an integral part of a person’s eventual success. Most students arriving at Dartmouth were at the top of their class in high school: the star of the debate club, the starter on the soccer team, the brightest and most involved, the busiest and most well-rounded. These successes are probably what got them to a school like this in the first place. However, when there are 70 incoming high school debate stars vying for 10 spots on the debate team, it doesn’t take an advanced mathematician to see that someone is going to get cut. We spoke to David Millman ’23, Dartmouth’s current Student Government president, for some insight on rejection in college. It just so happens that during his first term at Dartmouth, Millman experienced rejection from you guessed it student government. When he ran for student senator, he lost. “You do have two choices when you get rejected from something,” Millman said. He explained that you can either wallow in your disappointment or train... https://www.woojr.com/spring-cut-and-paste-worksheets/.

activities we are good at, failure seems unbearable. We deprive ourselves of potential successes or potential lessons learned by choosing the only surefire way not to fail: not trying. When you look at rejection from a lens of self growth, it becomes almost freeing. Rejection is like a clean slate: You get to start anew, and you’re forced to be introspective and re-evaluate the source of your identity. Do you like debating because you’ve always been praised for your abilities, or is it something you actually enjoy doing? Is your skill as a debater really nullified by your rejection from a team that only has room for a few? These questions are hard to think about, but they’re important. Of course, adopting this mindset is easier said than done. I (Mariel) was rejected from the club tennis team just last week, and it was, admittedly, not a fun experience. However, I’m glad I tried out and I don’t see tennis any differently. I still love to play, and will for a long time. My failure came with a few valuable, unexpected gifts: first, time to pursue other interests; and second, the revelation that being rejected isn’t so bad after all, which has made me more willing to try new things and potentially get rejected again. With that being said, we encourage you to see the value in rejection. It’s not something to shy away from. It’s uncomfortable and difficult, but it’s a challenge and maybe one you’ve never faced before.... https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Browse/Search:spring%20cut%20and%20paste.

less than ideal. When the 49ers traded three first-round picks and a third-rounder to move up in the 2021 NFL Draft for Lance, it was a foregone conclusion the North Dakota State product would eventually become the franchise quarterback, ideally in time for the 2022 season. Garoppolo was set to consume nearly $27 million in cap space during the final year of his contract, which was far too much for a backup quarterback, so it was logical to explore the trade route. But even the interested teams had two concerns: Whether Garoppolo would recover quickly enough for training camp and how willing he’d be to take a sizable pay cut. That uncertainty essentially made Garoppolo an afterthought during an offseason when Russell Wilson, Deshaun Watson, Matt Ryan, Baker Mayfield and Carson Wentz were traded, while Marcus Mariota and Mitch Trubisky joined new teams as stopgap starters. “Jimmy absolutely needed to have it done,” ElAttrache said of the hourlong surgery. “But the timing was such that he was going to find himself in a situation where not many people would be able to take the risk of assuming a contract like that before they saw if his throwing shoulder was good. He understood it, and he was awesome with it. He knew he needed to have it done. He accepted it, and he didn’t let it bother him too much. He stayed focused on his rehab and with the throwing program. We were optimistic and spoke to the team and told... .

determined Lance had earned during organized team activities in the spring. The 49ers held out hope that serious trade talks would evolve in August, but no one stepped up. Teams preferred to see if they could get Garoppolo at a reduced rate upon the presumption he’d get released. Along the way, Garoppolo and the 49ers found clarity. Sure, Garoppolo could have outright refused to take a pay cut to essentially force the 49ers to cut him. But by the time he joined a new team in late August or early September, it’s unrealistic to think Garoppolo or any QB could learn a new system by Week 1. And if called upon to replace that team’s starter, how productive could he really expect to be under those accelerated circumstances? And if the performance wasn’t great, that would impact his contract negotiations next offseason in free agency. As for the 49ers, they remained high on Lance but were reasonable regarding the element of the unknown. Lance started two games as a rookie and hadn’t played a full season of football since 2019, so the 49ers expected there to be some growing pains. And if those struggles snowballed or Lance got hurt, they couldn’t stomach the idea of a lost season with a roster that’s talented enough to make another deep playoff run. So the 49ers and Garoppolo made a levelheaded compromise and struck a deal. Garoppolo took $6.5 million guaranteed with incentives that could carry the value to north of $15 million... .

Crazy valuations of billions of dollars A double-digit number of Israeli tech companies merged with SPACs in 2021, most of them in deals that reflected crazy valuations of billions of dollars, including ironSource, Taboola and Hippo. Despite the sharp declines suffered by investors in the shares of these companies, which lost more (and sometimes much more) than half of their value, there are still Israeli companies that have announced a SPAC merger, even as the trend has faded. These include fintech company Pagaya (whose stock has become a sensation in recent weeks), travel-tech company Holisto, satellite technology company SatixFy, hospitality network Selina and autotech company Newsight. It is true that this is a trickle compared with last year, and still, it is possible that eulogies about the SPAC are premature. Adi Mimran, one of the owners and managing partner of Fundem Capital, which advises SPACs, feels that after the great decline there is a revival, and according to him, he receives calls -.

Until the sought after merger is found, the SPAC itself is traded, but the money is kept in trust, and the investors reserve the right to receive it back if for some reason they decide to abandon the SPAC before the merger. After the company that will merge with the SPAC is found, negotiations are held over the valuation, and usually a private investment public equity (PIPE) investment is closed as part of the completion of the merger, and then the merged company begins to trade on the stock exchange. In this way, quite a few "dream companies" listed on Nasdaq, but later experienced an angry backlash on the market, when the hype soon wore off and they experienced a dramatic drop. For example, the market cap of Talkspace, a company that provides online mental therapy and was founded by Oren and Ronnie Frank, was cut by 85%, while that of the insurtech company Hippo was cut by 90%, and these are just a few examples. Symptomatic treatment with fluids and any medications prescribed by a GP or health professional is the recommended management. While most people infected with any of these diseases recover without intervention, recovery can take weeks. Patients are advised to seek further medical advice if not recovering. “We need to focus on preventing the spread of these organisms and we encourage everyone to be vigilant about hand-washing as the best way to help prevent the spread of the disease.” To reduce the risk of infection with these organisms: • You should assume that all cattle, sheep and goats are infected, even if the animals look clean and healthy. • You can pick up VTEC and other organisms by touching animals, fences and other surfaces and accidentally transferring the bacteria to your mouth. • Children, especially those under 5, are particularly vulnerable to gastrointestinal infections and are more likely to suffer very serious illness as a result. • Washing your hands thoroughly with soap and water will reduce the chance of infection, in particular after using the bathroom or changing diapers and before preparing or eating food. • Remember to wash your hands after touching an animal, before eating or drinking, and after removing clothing and shoes worn on the farm. • Children should be closely supervised to ensure that they wash... .
